The foundational initiative for transforming IBM's High Velocity Supply Chain. Through this initiative, we are changing the way we serve clients by moving away from a "one size fits all" model to an approach that differentiates each System x product segment into A, B, C and D products.

The "A" products are our sweet spot offerings that drive the bulk of our volume, revenue and profit, and are delivered perfectly to a short order-to-ship lead time.

The "B" products consist of our lower volume offerings and are delivered reliably to slightly longer lead times.

The "C" products are our lowest volume, special order products that will have extended lead times.

And finally, the "D" products are end-of-life products, and in this case we will maintain our current fulfillment approach.

This new "ABCD for System x" approach is worldwide, with the exception of Brazil (targeted for 3Q12), and it will change some of your day-to-day work and conversations with clients. It will require more awareness of what you choose or recommend, but it will give you better information so that you can provide more credible SLAs to your clients.

The approach is very much a game changer, but only for example if we condition the sale of the "A" products, drive efficiencies and higher profitability for IBM, and set and meet higher expectations with our clients!

According to CRN Cisco is, "telling customers of its UCS blade servers that its UCS B440 model carries a risk of overheating and possible fire."

I am sure clients who bought into the Cisco UCS hype are questioning their decision now and probably thinking they should have given the decision to go with an unproven server provider a little more consideration. After all, the data center is increasingly a place where clients extract real business value and the last thing they need is to worry about infrastructure reliability.

Take Action:
• Share the press reports with clients, including those from CRN "Cisco: Some UCS B440 Blades Could Overheat, Need Replacing" and The Register, "Cisco Recalls Suicidal Blade Servers" so they are aware of potential hazards.

• Convey the fact that IBM has been in the blades business for over a decade and according to the Edison analyst group, "the IBM BladeCenter Foundation for Cloud sets the standard for highly efficient and reliable virtualized server platforms."

• Take a look at the xVictory Win Bulletin on Agencia Estado on how one IBM client team handily beat Cisco UCS.

This is a perfect example of the fact that Cisco is very new to the server business, and its UCS solution is not ready for true enterprise-class deployment.

Every client environment has x86 servers...Make it IBM System x and BladeCenter !

The NEW System x Registration form is NOW available in PartnerWorld and MUST be used for all registration requests. This change was instituted to incorporate the System x approved registration data into the GPP tool as of January 23.
If you use an outdated form, the registration request will be returned to you with the new 2012 form to re-submit.

To reiterate, effective Monday, January 23, 2012, a new "System x Deal Registration Form" and a new "System x Deal Registration Extension Form" are the only forms which will be accepted.

The latest versions of the forms are located in the updated Business Partner Library on the IBM PartnerWorld website.

Once on the website, follow these instructions to obtain the most recent forms:
• If prompted, select a Country, click Go.
• If prompted, enter your IBM ID and password, click Submit.
• On the left navigator pane, select Products.
• Select Find Product Resources.
• Under Type, in the drop down, select Business Partner Library.
• In the Keywords field, enter Registration, click Search.
• From the results, select the applicable document or form.

The completed new forms are to be sent to the e-mail address: sysxdreg@ca.ibm.com.

The System x world wide marketing team has just released a new tool that will change the way critical assets are distributed throughout IBM sellers and partners. The Workload Solutions eGuide was designed with the users of SSI and Partner World sites in mind.

The feedback from the sales teams and partners was clear. SSI and Partner World are difficult, if not impossible to navigate. This sales driven project was designed to allow IBM reps and business partners easy access to customer critical, solution based assets.

This tool is a simple HTML page that can be easily bookmarked. This will give IBM sellers and business partners access to hundreds of vital documents that can be used to build pipe and close business.

The eGuide includes nine critical solutions along the left navigation. Each solution will have specific information in a summary, the opportunity in the marketplace, System x strengths, and differentiation from our competitors. Also, for each solution there will be sales assets on the right including a System x seller presentation, customer deliverables, reference configurations, white papers, and more.
