Now Supports OpenFlow Standard on 16 HPN Switches

On February 2nd, HP issued a press release announcing the support of the OpenFlow standard on 16 models which include the HP 3500, 5400, and 8200 series switches. HP plans to provide OpenFlow support across all switches under its FlexNetwork architecture by the end of 2012.

Used until now in research, OpenFlow is a standard which allows packets to be controlled in software, separate from the physical infrastructure. This means that OpenFlow enabled network equipment allows network managers the flexibility to program and better control their own networks, and move core switches to the network edge.
